MicroDerm Beta Backscatter ( BBS ) Systems

Before XRF the MICRODERM systems were the choice for some precious metal applications. They still offer greater thickness penetration. MicroDerm Beta backscatter systems have for many years been a major part of coating thickness measurement technology for a wide range of applications, some of which can not be addressed by other non-destructive methods. While testing with XRF has become the preferred option in many cases, BBS systems are able to offer measurement of applications that XRF can not, and thicker coatings that are effectively infinate to the X-ray systems.

MicroDerm CMS

The Microderm CMS is a handheld unit perfect for process-line operation. Its menu-driven interactive software and recharging docking station with spare battery pack, makes it versitile and easy to use. The Microderm CMS offers a data management software with 100 applications, 40 calibrations, and 10,000 measurements. Options include statistics with mean, standard deviation, highest - lowest measurement, range and data export to PC systems

microderm cmsTypical measurement applications include:-

Coating / Glass or Plastics - Tin / Copper -

Microderm MP Systems

MP900 MicrodermThe MP range of Microderm beta backscatter systems has long been establisted. MP-500, MP-600, MP-700, MP-800 and now the current generation MP-900 system.

The MP-900 has full BBS capability with multi probe input for job flexibility. It also has the added bonus of an optional Hall Effect mode to enable the measurement of Nickel under Gold, Sliver or other like coatings.

This mains powered bench to unit also has a mode to meassure SnPb composition.

Beta Backscatter Probes

The HH-3

HH3 Probe PictureIs a self contained probe system consisting of a probe barrel, beta source, Geiger-Muller tube sensor, specimen mask, and case assembly.
This versatile probe can be used with any of several probe guides and stands, enabling measurement on almost any size or shape of part.

The WF Probe GuideThis probe guide is used with the HH-3 or HH-2 probe and attaches in seconds without tools.
This handy probe guide is balanced with a metal outer ring, which encircles a polished Lucite core. The guide holds the probe steady on horizontal surfaces.
PS-10A Probe TableThe PS-10A probe table allows precise, instant alignment of very small parts. Electronic components such as connectors, contacts, pins, and terminals are readily measured with the probe system.
A spring-loaded pressure securely hold parts steady.
The SPG-1 ProbeA guide that uses an HH-3 probe and attaches in seconds without tools.
A spring-mounted pressure pin holds small parts securely on the HH-3 probe for accurate, repeatable measurements.

"BTF" Probe

The Beta Thin Films "BTF" probes measure wet or dry coatings such as stamping lubricants, primers and adhesives on flat parts. Extremely thin organic and metal fim coatings are accurately measured. beta thin film probe picture
